Particle "Wo"

PARTICLE

  • 1.      Is used with everyday verbs, such as read, eat, take a break, know, etc.

Ex:       風邪引いて会社を休みました。
è I caught a cold, and took a day off work.
           毎あさパンと卵食べます。
è I eat bread and eggs every morning.

  • 2.     Used with verbs of continuous motion and a finite place/distance, such as walk, cross, go for a walk, run, fly.

Ex:       鳥になって空飛びたいです。
è I want to be a bird and fly.
           この道あるいて学校へ行きます。
è I walk along this road on the way to school.

  • 3.     Used with transportation such as train, bus, taxi, etc., to express “getting off/out of” verbs.

Ex:       バス降りて、5分くらい歩きます。
è Get off the bus, and walk for about 5 minutes.
           ちかてつおりて、バスにのります。
è Get off the subway, and get on the bus.

  • 4.     Used with 「出る」

Ex:       仕事が終わって、会社出ました。
è After finishing work I left the office.

  • 5.     Used with transitive verbs, that is verbs that take a direct object. (That is a subject does the action, not the object)

Ex:       先生が授業始める。
è The professor starts the class.
           女の子がまどあけています
è The girl opens the window.
